Life Back Then 2

Life back then was Awesome.....devoid of many miseries and stress we see today


-          When there was only one channel on TV (rare privilege of little richer) - Doordarshan - starting at 6.30pm and ending at 9.30pm.

-    When you would rush to your uncle's place to see the weekly 'Chitrahaar'

-    When you waited for a full week to see the Sunday movie on the only TV at your neighbour’s place, the room use to be full, even the people who owned the TV sometimes found it difficult to find a place to sit.

-          When on a Thursday evening, I will rush to my uncle’s place to see - 'The Count of Monte Christo', my favorite.

-          When you lived in a home with intro today high ceilings with 'Roshan daans ' to keep it cool in summer - coolers and ACs were hardly known.
-      When Usha ceiling fan on a long rod did the job very well.

-      And when there was a power outage there were mo Inverters or home generators, just a hand 'Pankhi' was enough to beat the heat.

-          When you enjoyed sleeping on terrace under the stars on a 'charpoy' (cot) made of 'baan' covered with a Kanpur 'durrie', white sheet and white pillow.

-          When ‘Khus’ (also known as 'Vetiver') hand made door curtains (Chiks) were hung on windows in homes and offices to brave the  hot summer air – ‘Loo’ (not the English loo)

-          And a ‘Bhishtee’ would spray water on them periodically from his leather water bag called 'Mashak' to keep them wet for cooling the room
